🤖 Senior Backend Workflow Engineers 📍 Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE ⏳ 12-month initial contract 🚀 Enterprise Technology & Digital Transformation Are you a Senior Backend Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges beyond simply building APIs? We're partnering with a leading organisation in Abu Dhabi to recruit 4 Senior Backend / Workflow Engineers to help design and build the core technology powering next-generation enterprise products. This is an exciting opportunity to work on sophisticated backend systems, business-critical workflows, approval engines and enterprise integrations, collaborating with talented engineering, AI and product teams. You'll play a key role in developing scalable, secure and reliable backend services that support complex enterprise processes. We're looking for engineers who enjoy taking ownership, solving challenging technical problems and building robust systems that perform in production. What You'll Be Doing: Design, develop and maintain production-grade backend services and APIs. Build complex workflow engines, state machines and approval processes. Develop long-running transactional workflows, including human approvals, exception handling and retry mechanisms. Implement business rules, policy engines and deterministic decision logic. Integrate backend services with SAP/ERP and other enterprise applications. Design robust relational databases and data models. Implement secure authentication, authorisation, audit trails and idempotent operations. Build asynchronous and event-driven processing using queues, events and background jobs. Develop automated tests and support CI/CD pipelines. Ensure systems are observable, reliable and maintainable in production. Collaborate closely with frontend, AI, integration and product engineering teams. 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience. Strong hands-on development experience in Python or Go (preferred); Java, C#, or Node.js/TypeScript also considered. Proven experience building and maintaining production APIs and backend services. Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL and data modelling. Experience with asynchronous processing and event-driven architectures. Solid understanding of authentication, authorisation and enterprise security. Hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD and automated testing. Ability to demonstrate recent, production-level coding experience. Highly Desirable Experience Temporal, Camunda or similar workflow orchestration technologies. Building custom workflow engines or state machines. Complex transactional systems and multi-stage approval processes. SAP/ERP integrations. Kafka, RabbitMQ or Azure Service Bus. Azure, Kubernetes and cloud-native environments. LLM tool/function calling and AI-enabled enterprise applications. Experience delivering solutions in regulated or high-trust environments.
