About the Program: Are you looking for an opportunity to gain real-world engineering experience while contributing to design projects that support the production of life-changing medicines? NNE is seeking motivated engineering students to join our Summer Internship Program. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside industry professionals across multiple engineering disciplines, including Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, and IT/Operational Technology (OT). As an intern, you will gain hands-on exposure to pharmaceutical manufacturing projects and learn how engineering teams collaborate to design, implement, optimize, and maintain systems that support a highly regulated production environment. You will work on meaningful projects, develop technical and professional skills, and build connections with experienced engineers and fellow interns. Location & Eligibility This internship is based onsite at the NNE office located within the Novo Nordisk campus in Clayton, North Carolina. Due to the nature of the program, candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the work location. Housing, relocation assistance, and travel stipends are not available for this internship. How You'll Spend Your Days Assist engineering teams with project tasks and ongoing improvement initiatives. Support process, mechanical, automation, and IT/OT projects across the facility. Participate in engineering design, studies, data collection, analysis, and technical evaluations. Assist with equipment assessments, field walks, system inspections, and troubleshooting activities. Support the development and review of engineering deliverables, drawings, specifications, and reports. Contribute to process improvement and cLEAN initiatives focused on efficiency, reliability, and compliance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges and support project execution. Assist in developing Automation and Data solutions per S88/S95 standard and FDA guideline. Participate in validation, commissioning, testing, and qualification activities where applicable. Attend project meetings, team workshops, and professional development sessions. Complete assigned training and learn about pharmaceutical manufacturing, engineering standards, and industry best practices. Who You Are Curious and excited to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. Analytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills. Comfortable working independently while also collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies, systems, and processes. Organized and able to manage multiple priorities effectively. A strong communicator who can present ideas and ask thoughtful questions. Required Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related engineering or technical field. Additional Preferred Qualifcations Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred. Strong interest in engineering, manufacturing, technology, or process improvement. Competence with Microsoft Office applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship for the duration of the internship. Coursework or project experience in process engineering, mechanical design, automation and controls, PLCs, SCADA or other industrial systems, data analytics, IT infrastructure, or related technical disciplines. Interest in pharmaceutical, biotech, or advanced manufacturing industries. Experience working on team projects, student organizations, engineering clubs, or research projects. Competitive paid internship: $20.00-$25.00 per hour, based on education and experience. Exposure to multiple engineering disciplines through a structured internship program. Hands-on experience supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing projects. Mentorship and coaching from experienced engineering professionals. Professional development workshops and opportunities to engage with leaders across the organization. Networking opportunities with professionals from NNE and Novo Nordisk.
