Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Oracle Database Consultant to conduct a comprehensive discovery and assessment of the organization's Oracle database environment. The consultant will be responsible for identifying existing database instances, assessing architecture and configurations, evaluating performance, security, availability, and resilience, and providing recommendations to improve the overall database environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Oracle Database architecture, administration, performance assessment, high availability, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, security, and database infrastructure assessment. Key ResponsibilitiesOracle Database Discovery & Assessment Perform comprehensive Oracle database discovery activities across the organization to identify all existing database instances, environments, versions, editions, and configurations. Build and maintain an inventory of Oracle databases across production, development, testing, disaster recovery, and other environments. Assess database architecture, infrastructure, configurations, and deployment models. Identify database dependencies and interdependencies with business applications, middleware, infrastructure, and other technology components. Review database environments to understand current architecture, operational models, and technology landscape. Database Health & Performance Assess the overall health, performance, capacity, and stability of Oracle database environments. Review database performance metrics, resource utilization, workloads, and configuration parameters. Identify performance bottlenecks, capacity constraints, configuration issues, and potential scalability concerns. Evaluate database availability and operational readiness. Provide recommendations for performance optimization and environment improvements. Security & Compliance Assess the security posture of Oracle databases, including authentication, authorization, access controls, privileged access, encryption, auditing, and security configurations. Identify security vulnerabilities, configuration gaps, compliance risks, and potential areas of exposure. Review database access and user privilege models against security and organizational requirements. Recommend improvements to strengthen database security and compliance. High Availability, Backup & Disaster Recovery Review existing backup and recovery strategies, policies, schedules, retention, and restoration procedures. Assess Oracle high-availability configurations and technologies where applicable. Evaluate disaster recovery architecture, replication, failover, recovery procedures, RPO, and RTO. Identify single points of failure and resilience gaps. Provide recommendations to improve database availability, business continuity, and disaster recovery readiness. Risk & Gap Assessment Identify technical, operational, architectural, security, and compliance risks across the Oracle database environment. Identify single points of failure, unsupported or outdated database versions, configuration weaknesses, capacity issues, and operational gaps. Conduct a gap assessment against industry best practices and organizational standards. Prioritize identified risks based on business impact, technical severity, and urgency. Develop a clear remediation and improvement roadmap. Documentation & Recommendations Prepare comprehensive discovery and assessment reports covering the current Oracle database landscape. Document the current-state architecture, database inventory, dependencies, risks, gaps, and key findings. Develop recommendations and target-state improvements for database architecture, performance, security, availability, backup, and disaster recovery. Present findings and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders. Support stakeholders in defining an actionable Oracle database optimization and modernization roadmap. Required Skills & Experience 7+ years of experience in Oracle Database administration, architecture, consulting, or database engineering. Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Database across enterprise environments. Proven experience conducting database discovery, assessment, health checks, and architecture reviews. Strong understanding of Oracle database architecture, configuration, and infrastructure dependencies. Experience assessing database performance, availability, capacity, and operational readiness. Strong knowledge of Oracle database security, access controls, auditing, and encryption. Strong experience with backup and recovery strategies and technologies. Experience with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions and architectures. Strong understanding of RPO, RTO, failover, recovery, replication, and business continuity concepts. Experience identifying technical risks, gaps, single points of failure, and compliance concerns. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent documentation, reporting, and stakeholder communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Oracle Database certification such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent. Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, and other Oracle HA/DR technologies. Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager or similar database monitoring tools. Experience working with large-scale enterprise database environments. Knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems and infrastructure technologies. Experience with database migration, modernization, consolidation, or upgrade projects. Knowledge of cloud database environments such as Oracle Cloud, AWS, or Azure is a plus. Experience with database security and compliance frameworks is an advantage.
