Through configuration automation, infrastructure standardization, proactive compliance monitoring, and continuous improvement, we aim to reduce manual effort, minimize configuration errors, strengthen security, and improve service delivery across our business operations. The Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Configuration Automation Specialist to design, develop, implement, maintain, and optimize automated configuration management solutions across enterprise IT infrastructure. The successful candidate will have strong expertise in configuration management frameworks, infrastructure automation, operating system administration, configuration drift detection, patch orchestration, compliance enforcement, scripting, and automated deployment workflows. This role will focus on establishing standardized system configurations, automating routine operational activities, maintaining configuration consistency, and improving the reliability and security of enterprise technology services. The Senior Configuration Automation Specialist will collaborate with Infrastructure, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cybersecurity, Network, Storage, Database, Applications, and IT Operations teams to develop reusable automation solutions, enforce configuration standards, improve operational efficiency, and support infrastructure modernization. The role will also help ensure that configuration management practices align with organizational policies and applicable United Arab Emirates requirements. Key Responsibilities1. Configuration Automation Strategy and Architecture Design and maintain an enterprise configuration automation strategy aligned with infrastructure standards, operational requirements, and technology roadmaps. Develop scalable configuration management frameworks for physical servers, virtual machines, cloud resources, network devices, and supported enterprise systems. Establish standardized configuration baselines for production, development, testing, staging, and disaster recovery environments. Evaluate configuration automation technologies based on scalability, reliability, security, compatibility, and maintainability. Develop reusable automation patterns, configuration templates, roles, playbooks, policies, and execution workflows. Define standards for configuration consistency, idempotency, version control, testing, documentation, and change traceability. Identify manual infrastructure activities suitable for automation and prioritize improvements based on operational risk and business value. Establish guidelines for managing configuration dependencies, environment-specific variables, secrets, and privileged operations. Assess integration requirements between configuration management, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, monitoring, and IT service management platforms. Maintain architecture diagrams, automation standards, technical specifications, and configuration management roadmaps. 2. Configuration Management Framework Administration Develop, administer, and maintain configuration automation solutions using tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt, or equivalent platforms. Design reusable roles, modules, playbooks, policies, manifests, and configuration templates. Manage automation inventories, target groups, execution settings, variables, dependencies, and configuration repositories. Establish standardized workflows for deploying and maintaining approved system configurations. Implement idempotent automation practices to ensure repeated executions produce predictable results. Manage configuration versions and dependencies to maintain compatibility across infrastructure environments. Configure automation controllers, execution nodes, agents, and supporting services where applicable. Troubleshoot failed automation runs, connectivity problems, permission errors, dependency conflicts, and unexpected configuration outcomes. Maintain automation platform health, availability, access controls, and operational documentation. Review configuration management tools and practices regularly to identify opportunities for standardization and improvement. 3. Operating System Configuration Automation Automate the configuration and maintenance of supported Windows and Linux operating systems. Develop standardized procedures for operating system provisioning, system settings, service configuration, and approved software installation. Automate hostname configuration, time synchronization, DNS settings, user and group management, and other approved system parameters. Maintain operating system security baselines and enforce approved configuration requirements. Automate the configuration of system services, scheduled tasks, environment variables, logging, and monitoring agents. Implement standardized filesystem, storage mount, and system resource settings where applicable. Support configuration of Windows services, Group Policy-related settings, and Linux system services according to organizational requirements. Validate system configurations against approved baselines following provisioning, maintenance, or major changes. Coordinate with Systems Administration teams to address operating system compatibility, service dependencies, and configuration conflicts. Maintain reusable automation components for consistent system setup across supported environments. 4. Infrastructure Provisioning and Environment Standardization Integrate configuration automation with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu, cloud-native templates, and approved provisioning platforms. Automate post-provisioning configuration for servers, virtual machines, cloud instances, and supporting infrastructure components. Develop standardized environment build procedures for application servers, middleware, monitoring tools, and enterprise services. Ensure new infrastructure resources receive required configurations, security settings, monitoring agents, and operational support integrations. Maintain consistent configuration standards across development, testing, staging, and production environments. Support automated deployment of approved infrastructure components for new applications, business services, and construction projects. Establish repeatable processes for rebuilding systems and restoring approved configurations following failures. Validate configuration dependencies between operating systems, networks, storage, identity services, and applications. Support infrastructure migrations, platform upgrades, and technology refresh initiatives through automated configuration workflows. Reduce environment inconsistencies by maintaining reusable templates and standardized deployment procedures. 5. Configuration Drift Detection and Remediation Establish processes to identify, monitor, report, and remediate deviations from approved configuration baselines. Implement automated configuration compliance checks across supported infrastructure environments. Compare deployed system configurations against approved desired states and identify unauthorized or unintended changes. Investigate configuration drift caused by manual intervention, failed deployments, software updates, or infrastructure changes. Develop controlled remediation workflows to restore systems to approved configurations. Coordinate with infrastructure owners before applying remediation to production or business-critical systems. Configure alerts and reporting for recurring deviations, failed compliance checks, and persistent configuration inconsistencies. Implement safeguards to prevent automated remediation from disrupting critical services. Maintain records of drift findings, remediation approvals, corrective actions, and verification results. Analyze recurring drift patterns and recommend changes to configuration standards, automation workflows, and operational procedures.
