For one of our clients we are looking for a Senior Python Backend Developer (m/f/d) to help build and scale AI-powered procurement applications as part of the AI Forge platform. You will play a key role in taking AI-powered prototypes and turning them into robust, scalable and production-ready enterprise applications. Your focus will be on backend development with Python, building reliable APIs and services, and creating the technical foundation needed to bring AI use cases into production. You will work closely with Data Scientists, Frontend Developers, Product Owners and Cloud Engineers in an international environment. Senior Python Backend Developer (m/f/d) – AI Applications Working model: Up to 100% remote after onboarding in Erlangen, subject to individual agreement Your Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain scalable Python backend services Build and maintain REST APIs and integrate backend services with frontend applications Develop data pipelines and backend services for AI-powered applications Turn existing prototypes into secure, maintainable and production-ready software Build APIs using FastAPI or Flask Apply asynchronous programming and modern Python development practices Design scalable and maintainable software architectures Implement authentication and authorization using OAuth2 and JWT Work with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy and data models Improve application performance, scalability and maintainability Implement logging, monitoring and robust error handling Troubleshoot and debug applications in production Write unit and integration tests and contribute to code reviews Help establish technical standards, architecture guidelines and best practices Work closely with Data Scientists, Frontend Developers, Product Owners and Cloud Engineers Your Background 5+ years of professional experience in Python backend development Strong track record of building and running production-grade backend applications Excellent knowledge of Python Hands-on experience with FastAPI or Flask Good understanding of asynchronous Python and object-oriented programming Strong experience designing and developing REST APIs Experience with OpenAPI / Swagger Knowledge of OAuth2 and JWT Solid experience with PostgreSQL and SQLAlchemy Strong understanding of data modelling Experience with software architecture and design patterns Strong focus on clean, maintainable code Experience writing unit and integration tests Experience with performance tuning and production troubleshooting Experience working in cloud-native environments Experience with AI/LLM applications is a strong plus Completed vocational training, university degree or comparable professional qualification Fluent in English Structured, analytical and independent approach to work AI & Technology The role focuses on the backend side of AI-powered applications. Relevant technologies and use cases include: LLM-based backend services Integration of AI and LLM models through APIs Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Vector databases LangChain and LlamaIndex Document processing pipelines AI-powered procurement applications You do not need to be an AI/ML specialist. What matters most is strong backend engineering experience and the ability to build reliable, production-ready software around AI technologies.
