Senior Python Backend Engineer (Hub) Experience: 7+ years Level: Senior Reporting to: Hub Team Lead Collaboration: System Architect Role Overview We are looking for a Senior Python Backend Engineer to contribute to backend implementation for the IIDC Hub. The role involves developing secure, scalable, and maintainable backend services, implementing API integrations, working with industrial communication protocols, and providing technical mentoring to the engineering team. The ideal candidate will have strong Python backend development experience, expertise in asynchronous processing and database technologies, and the ability to refactor and improve existing codebases. Core Skills and Experience 7+ years of professional software development experience, with strong expertise in Python backend engineering. Hands-on experience with FastAPI, Pydantic, and asynchronous processing. Strong knowledge of SQLAlchemy, Alembic, and PostgreSQL, including database modelling and schema migrations. Experience with MQTT, Sparkplug B, and Protocol Buffers. Practical experience implementing API authentication and authorization, secrets management, and audit trails. Experience with X.509 certificates and EST (Enrollment over Secure Transport) integration using established libraries. Strong testing skills using pytest, including unit and integration testing. Experience with Docker-based development and deployment workflows. Proven ability to refactor brownfield codebases, improve code quality, and conduct effective code reviews. Ability to mentor developers, contribute to technical decisions, and collaborate with the System Architect and Hub Team Lead. Familiarity with PKCS#11 and cryptographic key management. Experience with industrial device management or industrial IoT systems. Familiarity with React and TypeScript. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain backend services for the IIDC Hub. Build robust APIs and asynchronous processing workflows using Python and FastAPI. Implement database models, migrations, and persistence logic using SQLAlchemy, Alembic, and PostgreSQL. Integrate industrial messaging protocols and data formats, including MQTT, Sparkplug B, and Protocol Buffers. Implement secure authentication, authorization, certificate management, and audit logging capabilities. Integrate X.509 certificate enrolment workflows using EST and established cryptographic libraries. Write and maintain automated tests using pytest to ensure reliability and maintainability. Use Docker to support consistent development and deployment environments. Refactor existing systems, identify technical debt, and improve performance, reliability, and code quality. Conduct code reviews, mentor team members, and promote backend engineering best practices. Collaborate closely with the Hub Team Lead and System Architect on technical implementation and design decisions.
