Senior SCADA/HMI Platform Engineer Location: Benson, NC Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site | Typical hours approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Compensation: $120,000–$140,000+ Position Overview We are seeking a Senior SCADA/HMI Platform Engineer to lead the development, integration, and long-term support of plant-wide supervisory control, visualization, and industrial data systems within an advanced manufacturing environment. This role will focus on the software and data layer connecting manufacturing equipment and operations, including SCADA/HMI platforms, historians, alarm management, industrial communications, and plant-wide visualization. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience designing and supporting SCADA systems in complex industrial or manufacturing environments and will be comfortable establishing scalable standards for a growing operation. This is an opportunity to help build the digital controls infrastructure for a new advanced manufacturing operation from the ground up rather than inheriting a mature legacy system. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, configure, and maintain plant-wide SCADA and HMI systems supporting manufacturing operations. Develop scalable SCADA/HMI architecture and establish standards for visualization, navigation, alarming, security, and system performance. Configure and maintain industrial historians and manufacturing data infrastructure. Develop operator interfaces and visualization tools that provide clear, actionable information to production and engineering teams. Establish and maintain alarm-management standards, including alarm configuration, prioritization, rationalization, and performance. Integrate PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment with plant-level SCADA/HMI and data systems. Support industrial communications and data exchange between equipment, controls systems, historians, and higher-level systems. Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols and interfaces, including OPC/OPC-UA and related technologies. Partner with Controls, Manufacturing, Process, Equipment, IT/OT, and other engineering teams to establish reliable plant-wide system integration. Work with OEMs and system integrators to ensure new equipment can be successfully incorporated into the site's supervisory controls architecture. Troubleshoot SCADA/HMI, historian, communications, and industrial data issues and drive root-cause resolution. Develop and maintain technical specifications, system documentation, standards, procedures, and architecture documentation. Support system testing, deployment, startup, and production readiness for new manufacturing equipment and processes. Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, maintainable, and appropriate for a high-performance manufacturing environment. Provide technical leadership and guidance related to SCADA/HMI and plant-level industrial data systems. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Approximately 7+ years of relevant experience in SCADA, HMI, industrial automation, controls systems, or industrial software. Strong hands-on experience developing and supporting SCADA/HMI systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Experience with major industrial SCADA/HMI platforms. Experience with platforms such as Ignition, Siemens WinCC, and/or Rockwell FactoryTalk is highly desirable. Strong understanding of industrial historians and manufacturing data collection. Experience with OPC/OPC-UA and industrial communication protocols. Experience integrating PLC-controlled equipment with SCADA/HMI systems. Understanding of PLC-based controls systems and industrial automation architecture. Experience developing operator interfaces, alarm systems, trends, dashboards, and manufacturing visualization. Familiarity with industrial networking and OT environments. Strong troubleshooting and root-cause problem-solving skills. Ability to work cross-functionally with controls engineers, manufacturing engineers, equipment vendors, IT/OT teams, and production personnel. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience developing standards or architecture for a new or expanding manufacturing facility is highly desirable.
